Hiring is an inexact process. And that’s not fair.

The reason so many people are unhappy at work (imho) is that we just followed some unwritten script for our lives that said, “grow up, go to school, incur debt trying to forget about things that make you miserable, and get a job - any job - so you can pay down your debt and do it all over again.”
Most ended up in jobs that we were reasonably competent in and then we kept going. Getting promotions (sometimes) being recruited to competitors (sometimes) and more or less doing the same thing day in and day out to get the paycheck.
Oh. Just me?
The problem (and it is a problem) is that eventually we ask ourselves what’s the point of it all.
Again - just me?
Admittedly I’m a thinker. An overthinker to be honest and that means I have had more careers and jobs than most people and more than my fair share of time spent lamenting that the system is rigged against me and it’s just not fair.
Over time I’ve worked with coaches and therapists and psychics to help me understand the meaning of life. (I’ll get back to you when I get to the bottom of it.) And I’ve come to the conclusion that life isn’t meant to be fair. Not very heartening is it? However, that gave me the freedom to ask myself the questions that were important to me. As in, what do I want my legacy to be? After all there has to be some reason for this wild ride called life and I wasn’t just put on this planet to eat, sleep and follow a script for “life” until I died!
I’ve figured out that to make a contribution I owe it to myself to pay attention to my own rhythms and joys. I have a responsibility to track when I’m in flow and work to make that happen more often - at work and at home and everywhere in between.
With that in mind I share with you step one of your job hunt responsibility - find your flow.
I hear you know, “but Peggie, how can I find my flow when I don’t have a job?” or “Who will pay me to relax?”
Finding your flow doesn’t mean you leap from where you are at work to getting paid to relax - and yes, people do get paid for just about everything. It doesn’t mean you have to (or should) quit your job if you have one that is reasonably fulfilling and pays the bills while you head to the Himalayas to find yourself.
Instead, set aside an hour each week with NO distractions and sit with yourself. Reflect on what made you happiest when you were a kid - was it climbing up on a shelf in your closet and reading a book? Was it making up plays and performing in the basement? Whatever it was doesn’t matter as much as the fact that you’re reflecting on when you felt most you.
If you think you can’t spend an hour without technology - start with 10 minutes and move forward. We’ve gotten so distracted these days and it’s easy to think there’s a magic button that everyone who is happy at work has found. That’s not true. It all takes work, and it starts with being happy with yourself.
For those of you celebrating the new light - via Ramadan, Passover, Easter or The Spring Equinox (or something else) may it be filled with the light to help you see your true value in this world and how your being here on Earth at exactly this moment is precisely what humanity needs now.
With affection,
Peggie

Career Q&A porch chat
Bring your questions about your job hunt and join in the ZenCareer Community.
Chats will be set at a specific date and time and they will incur a small fee $17.95 USD in order to attend. (or you can sign up for a year of chats - right now that is 6 - every other month - for $100.00). Another alternative? If you choose to pay for a subscription to ZenCareer (at any level) you will automatically receive a link and invitation to every porch chat at no additional fee.
You’ll receive the link for the event and you’ll get a reminder a day and an hour before the live event.
You’ll send your questions before hand, if you have them (and maybe can’t attend live - but want the recording) and include some of your personal background that is relevant to the question.
During the hour I will select as many questions as can be answered during the time allotted. If you’re on the chat live I’ll ask you to participate in the conversation by asking YOU questions to dive deeper into what’s really happening.
Much like group sessions with mediums and psychics (yeah, I’m a fan) ALL the attendees who are gathered should listen carefully - it’s not a coincidence that you’re on that particular call at that time - whether your question gets pulled or not, I guarantee you’ll receive some useful, actionable information during the live chat.
The first chat will be May 17, 2023 (Wednesday) at 8 eastern/5 Pacific, and will be recorded and sent only to those who have paid to attend.
