Hi friends.
Before I forget — I’ll be speaking on a Panel for The Bridge - a professional organization for people in career transition. The virtual event is Friday, 8/9 at noon eastern. Whether you’ve been looking for a new role for months or are just starting to think about it - this group focuses on helping professionals make career moves. You can learn more and register to attend here. The panel is made up of professional recruiters and we’re poised to break down the truth of what happens in a job hunt from a recruiters perspective. Oh. and it’s free.
The mere mention of the planet Mercury can cause shudders to run down the backs of otherwise logical people. Over the years he’s gotten a bad rap - first in the days when NO ONE was into astrology except for the gold-chain and leisure-suit wearing crowd at Studio 54 — and later as more mainstream people were beginning to dive deeper than their daily newspaper horoscopes.
While I’m not an astrologer, I’ve been working as a hand-analyst and intuitive since last century. In that time I’ve met some great and not-so-great astrologers and picked up some rules of the road for when Mercury is retrograde. If you want to dive in yourself, I recommend this curation of articles by my colleague Theresa Reed, The Tarot Lady.
We’re all on a spiritual journey here on Earth and finding meaning in our lives often starts with finding meaning in our work.
This search for meaning isn’t new of course and I’m here to remind you to choose wisely what you do with your time.
If you’re looking for a new job, take time to reflect on what would bring satisfaction and meaning to your work - maybe a particular industry speaks to you? Perhaps it's a job title? It could be a combination of finding a job that pays the bills and leaves you mentally and energetically free to volunteer in your time off.
All are possible. And only you know what will truly fulfill you.
During Mercury retrograde (now through the end of the month) it’s a great time to reflect on what’s most important to you and to revisit plans and opportunities from the past.
Was there a job you thought was a shoe-in only to find out that they pulled it? Maybe you made it to the final round for a role and for whatever reason you didn’t get the position. Provided you left the conversations on good terms, now would be a good time to reach out and reconnect with the folks you met with.
Maybe you’ve been planning and dreaming of starting your own company and put it off because you didn’t feel ready. Pull out those notes and dust them off - the timing could be right now.
There is, of course, more to astrology than one planet in the sky - take this as a broad picture of how to put fears of Mercury Rx away and let it work for you as continue your job search.
