“Learning to let go and let life unfold has nothing to do with giving up. It simply means, sometimes, instead of figuring it out, you have to wait it out. Feel it don’t force it. Patience not pressure. And, most importantly, dignity, not desperation.” Kyle Creek, aka The Captain
This may piss you off. The reason you’re not getting hired is that you’re all over the place. Heck. It’s why you’re not getting interviews.
Living in a time when you head to the internet and enter a job title and hit search seems like a great thing if you want a new job. So much more modern than opening a newspaper and hunting through the classifieds. Easier too than walking into shops and restaurants and filling out an application.
So it seems.
It’s hard to argue with the sheer volume of possible jobs. If you are moderately or excessively unhappy where you are, it may seem like you have so many options all you have to do is pick one and move forward. And so you do. You keep selecting what seems interesting, or easy over what speaks to you in your soul.
Back in the dark ages of searching for jobs through classified ads and word of mouth people were more selective - and to a certain extent realistic. We seemed to understand a career trajectory took some time and it was our job to navigate from first job to retirement in a thoughtful way.
With so much possibility, and the addition of NEVER BEING BORED because we can scroll our way through any uncomfortable or dull bits of our lives, there’s no introspection taking place before, during and after the job search.
When you aren’t clear on where you’re going - and most importantly, WHY you’re going there - you sure aren’t going to get there - at least not without some easily avoidable road blocks and hairpin turns.
Here’s the deal. You can get a job. It just may not be a fulfilling job. And that’s because you’re making it harder on yourself than it needs to be.
BEFORE you start hitting apply on every job that seems remotely interesting - step back and figure out your short and long term goals. Align them with your core values and wrap them in the deep understanding of how you thrive.
WHY ARE YOU HERE?
You were put on this planet, at this time and in this place for a reason. You are needed here. Aligning your work with your true north is your right and your responsibility. No hiring manager, boss or HR director is as concerned with you fulfilling your soul contract as you are. After all, they are ploughing through trying to live their own.
If you feel like you’re not sure why you’re here on the planet, I invite you to put your phone down for 15 minutes each day and sit or stand or walk in silence. Let your mind wander wherever it wants. Set a timer. When the time is up, jot down any thoughts that seemed useful.
Do this each day - after thirty days reflect on what, if anything, feels different.
What’s In Your Hands?
Your hands contain a map to help you identify your core strengths and challenges. They show you the ways you get in your own way and the reasons you do that to yourself. They don’t judge you. They don’t prophesize fame and fortune or pain and misery. Those are your own beliefs. Instead, they lay out the ways you can move more effectively through life - through a combination of your fingerprints, hand shapes and lines.
Want to see what your hands have to say about your career path? Would you like to create a plan to move with more ease throughout your career?
From now through September 15 you can have a private session to review your hands - simply for being part of this community. I do ask 2 things in exchange: 1) you provide a service/gift/healing to someone in your community; and 2) you share feedback about your hand analysis session directly to me within 48 hours of your appointment.
Between your daily practice of 15 minutes of silence and a hand analysis session, you’ll find your less all over the place - and that’s going to help you not only land the interview, but secure the job.
