It’s a weird time to be American, isn’t it?
I’m not a person with any real answers. I’m a person who wakes up and tries to be present, here. now. Doing my best to find ways to shine light on what works - not in an attempt so much to shove all the crap in the closet, behind the unused suitcases and electronics that I have no idea how to discard without trashing the Earth - more because my only recourse is to make better choices and release my need to control. In an attempt to regain balance.
After all, if I’m not balanced, how can I know what balance truly is?
America is a young country. We seem to be in our angsty, rebellious teen phase and I’m hoping we find our way through it. This, obviously, is a letter about work and careers, not politics. Yet, capitalism is what has brought us here. And while it’s not ideal, my feeling is that is better than Totalitarianism and Fascism at the very least.
I started college with a double major in political science and mass media - always seeking the truth of why a nation does or doesn’t do a certain thing. In the end I found solace in reading novels and “great” literature and plays. Now I realize I’d have been better served with a degree in psychology - in my never-ending quest for understanding the human condition.
Decades of metaphysical studies have taught me that the key to healing anything outside of myself relies on my own, personal healing. And that my physical healing is always intertwined with my emotional and mental healing.
So it is with helping others - whether in career searches or life purpose quests (and for many the two seem intertwined) - my ability to help is intrinsically tied to my ability to be present to helping myself.
On this holiday of Independence, I celebrate you in all your one-of-a-kind human glory! I celebrate the gifts you bring - to your communities, to your families and to your employers. I celebrate your urge to MAKE THINGS BETTER and I cheer you on if doing that looks like branching out on your own entrepreneurial endeavor.
Each and every day I celebrate you making your choices to move you ever forward - knowing that each right choice moves us all closer to healing and compassion.
Big hugs,
Peggie
P.s. We had fun last week on our live call - and we explored the reasons for “ghosting” from recruiters, as well as why paying $6000 for a resume and LinkedIn rewrite may or may not be the best idea for a job hunter today.
P.P.S. We’ll have another call this month - Tuesday. July 23rd at 530 pm Eastern. If you’re a paid subscriber, look for the link to join. If you’d like to join us - upgrade to a paid subscription today - or you can attend 2 monthly calls for $20. Just reach out and let me know if that’s your preference.
What’s next -
would you rather talk about forgiveness at work or ways to move from employee to entrepreneur? Tell me in the comments.
Love you - sending a big hug!
