Hey there ZenCareerist!
How are you? I mean it. I’d love to know so hit reply or drop a line in the comments and let me know.
Me? I’m exhausted to the bone. I’ll spare you the boring bits…and tell you this. Adoptees (like me) have been known to overcompensate at work to prove their worth - even in jobs that are supposed to be part-time to support a full-time dream. Yup. I got it all twisted in the last year, and I’m now working to realign my priorities and focus my work where I can help MORE people thrive in jobs they love. (aka, “don’t do what I did).
ANYWAY….to distract myself from the overwhelm I did too much scrolling and learned some new things about resumes and celebrities.
Did you know?
Leonardo da Vinci is credited with creating the first resume. Basically it was a list of things he’d done that he put into a letter to a potential new employer, Ludovico Sforza. Sforza? He was the Duke of Milan and an expert at growing vines.
Typos and grammatical errors are tanking your chances of getting a call from a recruiter/hiring manager. EVEN if you have the skills required for the job. (source: MIT/Sloan)
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Barack Obama and Jennifer Hudson are just some of today’s celebrities who had early jobs in food service.
I’d go on — but — work/life balance.
Big hugs,
Peggie

Adoptee here. You mention adoptees have been known to overcompensate to prove their worth. Yikes: my work has been my life. Then it was family and work. Only lately have I allowed myself simpler pleasures like gardening. Watching things grow. I married a guy whose work has been his life too. Parallel play has been our jam for the decades. I "lectured" him recently on how he needs to make room in his life for other things now that I've made room in mine. Funny how that works!
As a special education aide there is a lot of hurry up and wait that goes on...Gotta meet students where they are at, which sometimes makes me feel always behind, never caught up to others, and I have to remind myself...'With these kids, I don't have to keep up the pace as much'...(except for making sure they don't miss their bus ride home!)
